You have the power to help Save the Sight of Utah’s children and adults. Though many types of vision problems cannot be helped, almost half of blindness could be prevented. Statistics show that almost 95% of adults have a vision related concern. Your donation will help Friends For Sight give the gift of sight.

Actually, you can give whatever you want – cash, stocks, bonds, art, collectibles, land, buildings, virtually anything of value. We will be happy to visit with you about any donation or arrange for you to visit with a specialist who is knowledgeable about your individual situation.

How To Give The Gift of Sight

    Securities

Gifts of securities, real estate or other assets that have gone up in value are a great gift for the donor, because the donors receive a double benefit. The donor can deduct the full fair market value of appreciate assets, owned more than one year, and avoid capital gain taxes or consequences.

Planning techniques for stocks, bonds, mutual funds or other assets are not simple. A donor should contact their own expert or call Friends For Sight, and we’ll have someone with expertise in that area help determine what would be the best way to make a gift.

    Real Estate

Gifts of real estate may be better for donors who are concerned about keeping readily available cash and investments that may sell more rapidly than real estate. There may be tax incentives to encourage private philanthropy. Benefits could include:

    • Reduced income, estate and property taxes
    • Lower insurance and upkeep costs
    • To avoid capital gains taxes
    • Increased lifetime income
    • Reinvest
    • Rid yourself of the administrative burden of property management

    Life Insurance

A gift of life insurance may be the simplest way to make a major charitable contribution. It is as simple as naming Friends For Sight as owner and beneficiary of a paid-up policy. This entitles the donor to a tax deduction equal to the cost basis in the policy, or in a policy that’s not paid up, to a tax deduction roughly equal to the cash surrender value of the policy. There are several ways to donate a life insurance policy, and many advantages:

    • A gift of life insurance is certain. The entire amount is designated to your philanthropic goals.
    • Life Insurance is paid promptly, and is not tied up in the administration of the estate.
    • Life Insurance is not a matter of public record, your privacy is protected.
    • Life Insurance gifts are simply a matter of asking your insurance representative to list Friends For Sight as the beneficiary of a policy.
    • Gifts of Life Insurance and future premiums are tax deductible.

    Gift Annuity

A charitable gift annuity is a lifetime of income…and personal satisfaction. It’s simply established by transferring cash, securities or other assets to Friends For Sight. An Annuity allows the donor to make a charitable gift and still receive income from the gift during their lifetime. A Charitable Gift Annuity does these things:

    • Gives you income for life
    • Provides tax deduction savings
    • Provides you a tax free income
    • Saves capital gains taxes
    • Gives you personal satisfaction of making a lasting gift

    Bequests and Memorials

Your will could name Friends For Sight as a beneficiary of your estate, by just adding simple words such as “I give, devise, or bequeath to Friends For Sight, 661 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84111, for it’s vision screening services, ___% of the rest, residue or remainder of my estate, whether real or personal.” or “I give to Friends For Sight, 661 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84111, the sum of $_____ (____ dollars) to be used for vision screening purposes.”

Or, you may wish to commemorate the life of a special person with a memorial in his/her name to Friends For Sight. The legacy of a volunteer or Board member could be “I was here, my life in Friends For Sight was very important, because I made a difference in the lives of many other people.”

Your contribution to a worthwhile organization such as Friends For Sight can be deeply gratifying and make the memory of a special person live on. In addition you help build a better world where everyone could see. We accept gifts of all kinds.
